DO YOU GET 'FAIR MARKET' PRICES WHEN SELLING WITH AN ONLINE AUCTION SERVICE?
Over the years I have had many clients come in with their items, wanting to sell their old watches or jewels and always wondering how they could get the best price for them. It is somewhat confusing for them, especially with all the TV and radio ads for gold buyers recently especially since the price has climbed substantially. The options, in my opinion are simple. It's all about 'time'. That is the most important factor in the equation. If you have an item that you 'have' to sell right away you will end up selling for the lowest price. It may be the highest offer you have had between dealers but it will be much lower than what you could get if you had more 'time' to sell. I often suggest internet auctions such as 'eBay' to clients that come in with either signed pieces of jewellery or timepieces. Just recently we had an amazing result on eBay for one of my clients. The auction was for a very nice 14k gold Waltham pocket watch. The market for pocket watches is slow and therefore dealers are very hesitant to offer anything more than roughly 80% of it's gold value (after deductions for the movement etc.). In this case it would have been approximately $600-. When my client came in I suggested 'eBay'. We agreed on a starting price of $999- and I listed the watch. The auction ended and the watch ended up selling for over $2,000- with tons of interest. This is one of those instances where a little 'time' = a lot of 'money', literally!
Internet auctions have proved to be a reliable and effective way of selling certain items, as long as they are listed for sale by a dealer who has a good track record with eBay and where the bidders are confident in the description by the seller. Very important!
Get in touch with me and make an appointment to bring your old unwanted jewels or watches and lets have some fun on eBay!

VINTAGE OMEGA SPEEDMASTER CHRONOGRAPH REF.145012-67
Just in to HQ! This is a fine example of the now 'iconic' vintage Omega Speedmaster Chronograph ref.145012-67, circa 1967. This watch became the well known first watch worn on the moon in 1969. This example and reference number was produced in very limited numbers and was retailed for about one year between 1967/68. In 1969 they started engraving the case backs 'flight qualified by NASA for all manned space missions' and a few other small changes were made. This example is the transition between the earlier cal.321 movement and the newer cal.861. This was the actual case reference number and configuration that NASA used on the moon. This example has the beautiful 'stepped' dial with silver raised Omega logo. It comes complete with the original bracelet and is in good working condition.
If you are looking to buy an 'iconic' vintage chronograph then this is for you. Get in touch for details as this will not last long and is priced correctly at fair market.

VINTAGE ROLEX EXPLORER II REF. 16570, A RISING STAR!
Customers often ask the question: In your opinion what is a modern or recent Rolex production watch that will become collectible or iconic in the future? It's difficult to answer because it is hard to predict fashion trends, which I believe play a large role in what is hot in the watch world. For many years now the trend has been large steel sports models and it seems to be sticking around longer than I thought. Not so long ago the Rolex Prince & Bubble Backs were the watches to have and collect, now when I put a bubble back on my wrist it looks like it was made for a small child. It is very small and therefore very difficult to trade or sell; the values have declined substantially.
With that said, I feel the black dial Rolex Explorer II ref. 16570 is a rising star. The size is great (not to big or small), the dial is so much better in black than in white. The later models (after 1996) where the Luminova showed a really green colour, especially against the white dial are not very attractive and against the black dial they look fine. The second time zone and fixed 24 hr bezel set it apart from the subs or GMT's. The red hand is also very nice, especially now that the more moderns ones have moved back to the orange colour. In my opinion, these are all the ingredients for a 'classic' in the future. The prices are really at the bottom for these now and there are still many examples such as this one that are available with their original documents etc.

VINTAGE ROLEX EXPLORER 'SUPER PRECISION' CIRCA 1956
Born in 1956? So was this beautiful watch, with an exceptional dial! Vintage gold-top Rolex Oyster-Perpetual 'Explorer' Super Precision, circa 1956. This watch is the a great looking 'dress Explorer' with it's gold coloured case and slightly smaller case than the larger 'sports' models of the period. The dial is exceptional, with raised gold numerals and 'pyramid' design textured dial. I particularly like the metallic blue center sweep second hand. These 3,6,9 Explorer dials are extremely hard to find, especially very early examples such as this. Get in touch for details.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: VINTAGE 18K GOLD OMEGA SPEEDMASTER APOLLO XI, CIRCA 1969
From the archives: A few years back I purchased this extremely fine and rare 18k yellow gold Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI, circa 1969. This is one of those pieces that I never stop thinking about. Probably one of the most beautiful gold chronographs from Omega and possibly from the 'space age' era.
Description:
Produced in 1969 in limited numbers (1014 total) to commemorate the first manned landing on the moon, complete with 18k yellow gold Omega bracelet. The first 39 watches were given to the astronauts with the exception of number 1 which was reserved for President Richard Nixon. Each watch was engraved with the name of the recipient astronaut on the back. The remaining 975 watches were engraved on the back "OMEGA SPEEDMASTER - APOLLO XI 1969 - THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON". This example is actually number 601 and came to me from the original owner in mint condition!!
Quite possibly the 'ultimate' Space Race chronograph!
